Post-Conference Excursion to Lantau Island
Date: 6 December 2009 (Sunday)
Duration: 7-8 hours
Setting off from CityU campus to Tung Chung, we will start the tour with a 25-minute ride on the Ngong Ping cable car, which will bring us from Tung Chung to the culturally and spiritually themed Ngong Ping Village. At the Ngong Ping Village, you may enjoy Walking with Buddha, a multimedia attraction that takes you through the enlightenment path of Buddha, or a charming and comical show inspired by the famous Buddhist Jataka stories in the Monkey's Tale Theatre. For those who like Chinese tea, the Ngong Ping Tea House demonstrates traditional Chinese tea ceremonies and offers a selection of teas and cakes.
A short walk from the Ngong Ping Village is the world renowned Po Lin Monastery and Giant Buddha, which is the world's tallest outdoor seated bronze Buddha statue. We will enjoy a vegetarian lunch in the Monastery, after which we will tour around the Monastery, the Giant Buddha, and the nearby Wisdom Path, featuring 38 giant wood columns carved with Prof. Jao Tsung-I's calligraphic work of the Heart Sutra.
Our tour will then continue to the Tai O Fishing Village, where you may enjoy wonderful attractions like the famous "stilt-houses" and a choice of stalls and shops in the Tai O Market. Our coach will take us back to CityU campus in the late afternoon.
